Petrosyan Brothers Victorious in Torino, Italy

The Thai Boxe Mania 2011 card in Torino, Italy provided a number of exciting bouts this evening, including the headlining bout which saw 70kg. kingpin Giorgio Petrosyan meet Thai standout Sudsakorn Sor. Klinmee. Armen Petrosyan also appeared, facing Miodrag Olar of Romania.

HyeFighter Giorgio Petrosyan and Sudsakorn Sor. Klinmee fought an enjoyable three round battle that I would highly recommend to fans. While initial stages of the bout were marked by hard leg kicks from both fighters, Petrosyan got the better of exchanges in the early part of the first round. Sudsakorn certainly held his own, landing solid shots late in the first and at moments during the second, but I would have to say that a series of left hands from Petrosyan were again the best offense seen in the second. Petrosyan continued to be just one step ahead of his Thai opponent in the third round and secured a decision victory.

Following the bout, Petrosyan restated that he would be fighting Cosmo Alexandre at Oktagon 2011 in Milan.

HyeFighter Armen Petrosyan also showed himself to be a cut above his competition while taking a unanimous decision against Romanian Miodrag Olar. While Olar threw a number of hard leg kicks throughout the fight, he was sent to the canvas by a series of hard right hands near the end of the first round. The second round was marked by Petrosyan’s defensive skill, as he avoided a number of wide shots and head kicks while continuing to work the body with kicks and knees of his own. The Romanian did connect with a wonderful shot at the end of the second round and a couple more early in the third, but it was truly Petrosyan’s bout.

After the bout, the younger Petrosyan confirmed that he would indeed be fighting Yoshihiro Sato.

HyeFighter Mousasi Looking to get Back in the Cage in April

In a recent call with HyeFighters.com, HyeFighter Gegard Mousasi informed us that he had a fight scheduled against Mike Kyle, that was slated for the Strikeforce March 5th card in Columbus, Ohio which at this point will not take place because Kyle needed more time to recover from his injuries.  As such, Gegard mentioned there is a chance he could appearing on the April 9th show, but nothing is confirmed as of yet.

Mousasi’s last fight in the US on April 2010, was also his last loss.  Since then, in 9 months he has run up a win streak of 3 (2 wins in MMA and 1 win in Kickboxing) and is looking to keep that streak in tact.

HyeFighter Georgi Karakhanyan Confirmed for Bellator Season 4

Bellator Fighting Championships on Thursday announced the inclusion of HyeFighter Georgi Karakhanyan in its forthcoming Season 4 featherweight tournament.

Karakhanyan, a Season 2 semi-finalist, joins Eric Larkin, Kenny Foster and Zac George as confirmed participants in the eight-man draw, the winner of which will receive a title shot against reigning Bellator featherweight champion Joe Warren.

A Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt, Karakhanyan last appeared at Bellator 28 in September, when he earned a unanimous decision over World Extreme Cagefighting veteran Anthony Leone at the Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts in New Orleans. The 25-year-old operates out of the Millennia Mixed Martial Arts Training Center in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and has rattled off 10 wins in his past 11 outings. Karakhanyan’s lone setback in that span came in a controversial unanimous decision to Warren at Bellator 18.

“I need to take this tournament one fight at a time. I’m trying not to focus on Joe Warren right now. Whoever they put in front of me, that’s who I’m going to focus in on,” Karakhanyan said in a release. “I never underestimate anyone. There are going to be some really dangerous fighters in this tournament, so I’m just going to take things one fight at a time, focus on that person and then go from there.”

Born in Moscow to Armenian parents, Karakhanyan played professional soccer before his current incarnation as a mixed martial artist. He owns notable victories against EliteXC veteran Bao Quach and Affliction alum Albert Rios. His loss to Warren still stings.

“I hate losing. Losing to Joe Warren was a horrible feeling,” Karakhanyan said. “To be able to come back from that and beat three guys on my way to getting revenge against him would be an amazing feeling. That’s my main goal right now.”

HyeFighter Arthur Abraham Returns To The Ring on Feb 12th

An interim world title, a European championship and the comeback of HyeFighter King Arthur Abraham – Mülheim an der Ruhr waits for a classic boxing evening on February 12th at the RWE Sporthalle. Abraham will be returning against Stjepan Bozic after a disappointing performance against Carl Froch in the third round of the Super Six tournament in November. “Before the Super Six semi-final against Andre Ward, I absolutely wanted another fight to gear up both mentally and athleticly. Fortunately, this time the break between the fights isn’t as long as last year.” King Arthur described former super middleweight title challenger Bozic as a “a real fighter type” and added “this will certainly be no easy fight. But for me it is only about winning. A lot is at stake.”

Abraham is back with trainer Ulli Wegner, with whom there was speculation he might part ways with after two straight losses. “The preparation for the Froch fight was very good. However, in the ring I didn’t deliver the performance that was necessary. I simply had a bad day. The responsibility for it lies solely with me. Now I’m looking forward to the fight in Mülheim. We’re boxing in a very nice venue. The spectators are very close to the ring and have a great view. My goal is to make both my fans and my trainer happy.”

HyeFighter Manny Gamburyan Fighting on March 19th in Newark at UFC 128

HyeFighter Manny Gamburyan, has put behind his loss to Jose Aldo, learned from it and is ready to open his training camp on January 17th to prepare for UFC 128 on March 19th in Newark NJ against Raphael Assuncao

UFC 128 takes place March 19 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., and features a light-heavyweight headliner between champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and former champ Rashad Evans.

Assuncao (16-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) makes his UFC debut after a five-fight stint for the company’s now-shuttered sister-promotion, the WEC. Assuncao debuted for the WEC in 2009 with decision wins over Jameel Massouh and Yves Jabouin but was derailed in a No. 1 contender fight with Urijah Faber. Assuncao was defeated again in a matchup with Diego Nunes but has since bounced back with a victory over L.C. Davis.

Meanwhile, Gamburyan (11-5 MMA, 2-3 UFC, 3-1 WEC) returns to the UFC after dropping to featherweight and racking up a 3-1 record in the WEC. A former lightweight, Gamburyan was a finalist on The Ultimate Fighter 5.  This will mark Manny’s return to the UFC! And, as Manny said “I can’t wait for training to start” and we can’t wait to see this fight!!!

HyeFighter Georgi Karakhanyan will return for Bellator’s season-four 145-pound tourney

Bellator Fighting Championships veterans HyeFighter Georgi Karakhanyan and Wilson Reis will each return to the promotion for the company’s forthcoming season-four featherweight tournament.

MMAjunkie.com has confirmed with sources close to both fighters that each has officially signed on for the upcoming bracket, which will determine the first challenger to current champion Joe Warren’s title.

An official announcement from the organization is expected shortly.

Karakhanyan (14-2-1 MMA, 2-1 BFC) debuted for the promotion in its season-two 145-pound tourney. The Russian-born Armenian and former professional soccer player made an immediate splash with a first-round knockout of Bao Quach in the tournament’s quarterfinal, but he was ousted in the next round via decision by eventual tournament winner Warren.

Karakhanyan returned for a non-tournament bout in Bellator’s third season and earned a unanimous decision over one-time WEC veteran Anthony Leone.

While Bellator has yet to officially announce any 145-pound fighters for its upcoming tournament, Karakhanyan and Reis join Nazareno Malegarie as contestants confirmed for the bracket by MMAjunkie.com.

Bellator’s fourth season, which is also expected to feature tournaments in the lightweight, welterweight and light heavyweight divisions, kicks-off in March and airs on MTV2.

HyeFighter Gamburyan Hopefull For a Fight in March

HyeFighter & “Ultimate Fighter” season five runner-up and former WEC featherweight number one contender, Manny Gamburyan has been speaking about his excitement that he’s returning to the octagon following the absolution of the Las Vegas based promotion, as well as saying he hopes the return comes in March of this year.

Speaking via TheGarv.com, Gamburyan said:

“Life is great, man, just doing my thing and hanging out with family, friends, and I’m training—and that’s about it. My next fight will be probably in March, hopefully in March, I don’t know the date, yet. I kind of know who I’m fighting, but I can’t talk about it, because we both haven’t signed a contract, yet. It’s going to be in March.”

“To be honest, it feels like I’m back home. I was fighting with the UFC, I went on the reality show, I went to the WEC just to do some work there at 145—and I did it.”

“That division is stacked, the whole division is stacked. I could name all day, they’re all top-notch guys. They’re all really good. I would love to [fight] all of them, before I retire—that’s for sure. I’d like to fight every one of ‘em. The future is good. I’ve got one plan only and I’m looking to do it as much as I can, I want to go for the belt, again, and hopefully I can get a victory this time.”

Gamburyan was the last man to challenge UFC featherweight champion, Jose Aldo for the WEC version of the title. Prior to that he’d impressively beaten Leonard Garcia and Mike Brown.
